Long before the sight of his copious rig gave Tommy Heinsohn the night terrors up in Boston, on this day 3 years ago, Aron ‘Bangers’ Baynes was tugging on the black and silver against the Denver Nuggets…and had his HIGHEST SCORING and BEST EVER GAME for the San Antonio Spurs!
Bangers — a cement truck disguised as an NBA player — obviously learned a thing or two from the Big Fundamental Timmy Duncan while Baynesy was leading the Spurs to the 2014 title, because he put up 18 points… in only 18 bloody minutes! That’s better than the 12-buck tradie lunch special down the Western!
The Man from Mareeba went 6-of-8 from the field and 6-for-6 on his free throws — each swished just about as perfect as Toni Collete’s performance in ‘Muriel’s Wedding’ — showing a more deft touch than Ken Done.
But not to be stopped there, Bangers the Beast also bodied the Manimal Kenneth Faried and the Bosnian Bear Jusuf Nurkic for 4 rebounds, added a steal so crafty that it’s being digitally inserted into ‘The Italian Job’ and threw down 2 blocks so vicious and with so little regard for all human life that JJ Hickson can still be found on San Antonio’s iconic Riverwalk telling passers-by that he needs an adult.
Look, sure Bangers has now got a haircut that’s about as sketchy as the dad from ‘Hey Dad’, but 18 points is 18 points no matter which way you slice it. The best part is… he bloody well did it two day beforehand as well! Bangers had back-to-back 18-point games… easily the two best games the big fella played for the Spurs!
Turns out when he’s not laying more wood than a Coonabarabran carpenter, Big Bangers is a more efficient scorer than Richard bloody Wilkins!
What a ledge!
