It was exactly 20 years ago today that the Aussie Bill Russell — big Luc Longley — outscored the GOAT Michael Jordan and led his Chicago Bulls to a huge win over the Toronto Raptors, proving once again just who was responsible for Jordan and Scottie Pippen’s last three rings.
The Giant Sandgroper had a night that was better than beetroot on a burger, going 8-of-14 from the field and 5-for-8 at the charity stripe for a whopping 21 points in only 26 minutes! How’s that! AND it was Big Lucien’s FOURTH HIGHEST SCORING GAME of his entire NBA career!
Aside from patrolling the paint like the second-coming of George Mikan, Lucien added 7 perfectly boxed-out rebounds — it would’ve been about 43, but bloody Dennis Rodman nicked most of ‘em to pad his own stats — while also handing off 3 assists like a 7-foot-2 John Stockton, and delivering a block so vicious that it reportedly left Marcus Camby in tears.
Sure, he had one 1 turnover and 2 fouls, but stats are for nerds and rumour has it big Lucien still spends a couple of hours a week stuffing pencil-necks in bins just for old times’ sake.
Anyway, it was just as well Longley’s shoulders were broader than the Nullarbor, cos it was clear that the big fella was busy carrying Jordan and Pippen to his third-straight NBA title!
#ONYA Lucien!
